Do I need a car key replacement or battery replacement?

Do you just need a battery replacement? We do those too.

If your car key has stopped opening your doors remotely, or does so only intermittently, then you might just need a battery replacement.

If you’re not sure, it’s best to give us a call and we will help you.

Why use us to replace your car key battery?

Buying cheap, replacement car key batteries via the internet will end up costing you more as they won't last very long.

We only use the very best, branded batteries, which will last up to 50% longer.

And the specialist tools we use to open up the shell of your smart key mean we won't do any structural damage, either. Indeed, we often have to repair or replace smart keys when the owner has tried to change the battery themselves.

We also carry out key re-shelling, if that’s all you need too.

What is car key re-shelling?

A re-shell simply means replacing the plastic casing of the car key – it’s a really effective way of breathing new life into your car key.

Providing the circuitry is salvageable, it’s also a very cost effective repair.

Spare car keys

With the recent spike in second hand car buying we’ve seen an increasing number of car owners come into the garage and when asked, say ‘please don’t lose my key!’ as they’ve only got one of them.

What happens if you only have one car key and you lose that one?

This can be a major headache and usually results in a very, very expensive visit to the original main dealer the car was purchased from, or calling out a locksmith.

So why wait for such a thing to happen?

Which types of car keys can you replace?

Essentially, we can do the lot.

Smart Keys

Smart Keys allow for automatic, proximity-based opening of doors and disabling of alarms.

And once inside the car you only have to press a button to start the engine because you have already passed the prerequisite security checks.

Some of the world’s biggest car manufacturers use Smart Keys including BMW, Mini, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Ford.

Remote Control Keys

Remote control car keys use a radio transmitter (or infrared) to send a coded signal to a receiver in the car.

They are used to open and lock doors and disable alarms. They're usually powered by rechargeable or replaceable batteries.

Switchblade Keys

Switchblade keys are a very popular type of modern car key and are a ‘hybrid’, being both remote control and a mechanical key.

They offer ‘point and click’ keyless entry alongside a mechanical key which pops out on pressing a button and is used to start the engine.

Mechanical and Transponder Keys

Mechanical keys are the original type of key, you put the key in the ignition, turn, and the engine starts.

During the 1990s most car manufacturers started adding electronic transponder chips into their mechanical keys giving them an extra layer of security.

Each transponder chip has a unique code which is read when the key is turned in the ignition.

While early transponder keys used 'fixed codes', more modern ones added yet another layer of security by using 'rolling codes' where the code would change every time the key is used.
